Members of the Moate Railway Station Restoration Group have been doing their bit in preparing for the official opening of the Greenway, taking place in Moate next Sunday, October 18.
Last weekend the group volunteered to paint and tidy up an external section of the station, and during the week they will be doing further paint jobs, floral arrangements ,and other work. The group was founded one year ago in order to harness the local goodwill, energy, and enthusiasm in anticipation of the Greenway and external restoration works at the station.
Founding member of the group, local Independent Councillor Michael O’Brien said: “It was great to see so many local volunteers out on Saturday to help out with paint work at the station. We have a great group of people who are willing to help in making the station look its best.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to commend the project manager, council contractor, engineers, and council workers who have done a fabulous job in restoring the external structures of the station; it is a credit to them. The restoration group is just happy to help out in any way we can with maintenance and project work that should ensure the station continues to look well into the future.”
