Pyjama chaser fined €500

A woman arrested in her pyjamas chasing up the street with a length of a hoover pipe whilst drunk was fined €500 in the District Court this week (January 28 ).

The court heard how Helena Flynn (27 ), of Assumption Road, Athlone was observed on December 20 in the early hours on Custume Place “chasing up the street with an iron pipe”, according to Inspector Nicholas Farrell.

“She was heavily intoxicated,” he said.

Her solicitor, Mr Tony McLynn, told the court how his client had been in bed but “was awoken by a ruckus in her living room”.

“She saw a third party had assaulted her flatmate,” he said.

“She saw red and chased him down the street with the tubular part of the hoover.”

“Why didn’t she ring the Guards?” asked Judge John Neilan.

“She accepts this,” said Mr McLynn.

“Was she clothed? She wasn’t out in her nightie?” asked the judge.

“She was in her pyjamas,” said Mr McLynn.

“If you want to go to Mountjoy in the next while, continue like this, young lady,” said the judge before fining her €500 on the Section 6 public order charge.
