A man remains in intensive care in hospital following a house fire in Battery Heights on Wednesday this week.
The 38-year-old man was rushed to Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe with severe smoke-related injuries after he was rescued from the burning house by emergency services. His inuries were described by Athlone Gardai yesterday as “not life-threatening”.
Another male who was in the house at the time also had to be rescued but was not injured.
The fire, which caused extensive damage to the house, was reported to emergency services at approximately 10.15pm on Wednesday night.
The scene was preserved and examined by a Garda forensic team, and Gardai have not ruled out foul play in their investigation.
