Athlone Animal Welfare to close its facilities

Athlone Animal Welfare (AAW ) has announced it can no longer continue to provide a cat rescue and rehoming facility. The organisation no longer has the manpower to carry out its duties to full capacity.

Committee members have done a fantastic job since starting up but have dwindled in number and can no longer dedicate the time needed to run the cattery and raise the funding needed for its maintenance.

The remainder of the funding this year will go towards assistance to the public primarily for spaying and neutering of cats and kittens. AAW also plan to allocate some funding to help dog owners with the costs of microchipping. In the future, AAW will continue to provide an education programme to primary schools and local youth groups.

AAW will also continue to maintain its website and Facebook pages as an information source for those seeking advice and help, to help reunite lost pets and owners, and where possible to rehome cats and kittens.

The organisation expressed their gratitude to all those who have helped out in any way at all over the last few years. As a huge thank you to everyone for their support, AAW is offering a prize of a €130 veterinary voucher. To be in with a chance of winning this voucher, simply email your name, address and chosen veterinary clinic to [email protected]. Closing date for receipt of entries is 5pm Friday, October 16. The winner will be notified by email.
