Review of St Hilda’s services to be completed by end of September - McFadden

Longford-Westmeath TD, Gabrielle McFadden, has been informed by the HSE that the review of services in St Hilda’s in Athlone and St Christopher’s in Longford is scheduled to be completed by September 30.

“Following my latest representations, the HSE has told me that the anticipated date for full completion of the review of intellectual disability services in the two counties, along with the finalising of a related report, is Wednesday, September 30,” Deputy McFadden said.

“The HSE has informed me that as part of the process, a ‘number of outcomes’ have been determined and discussed with stakeholders. As we know, this review arose in late 2014 after the mounting of considerable political and public pressure when both St Christopher’s and St Hilda’s were hit with significant funding difficulties.

“The HSE has acknowledged that this analysis has taken longer than originally envisaged but, as I have been pushing for from the outset of this process, guarantees must be given that there will be no further cuts to vital intellectual disability services in Westmeath and Longford.”
