Legends of Irish music and song The Fureys, renowned for their hit songs ‘I will love you’, ‘When you were sweet 16’, ‘The green fields of France’, ‘Red rose café’, and ‘Steal away’ will be performing in concert in Roscommon Arts Centre on Friday, October 2 at 8pm.
Having formed in 1978, the band have been together for a remarkable 37 years and are still going strong. George, Paul, and Davey began their musical careers in a band called the Buskers while Eddie and Finbar had embarked on their own musical endeavours. While touring in Germany, Eddie and Finbar were involved in a road accident. When George and Paul got news of the accident they immediately travelled to Germany to be with their brothers. They then decided that they should all be playing together and this was the start of The Fureys.
There have been changes in the band over the years, with the passing of Paul suddenly in June 2002, and Finbar leaving the band in December 1996. However George and Eddie continue to delight audiences on their tours and have just released a new CD called ‘The times they are a changing’.
Their songs are filled with nostalgia and their performances take their listeners on a journey of music and memory. So come along and join The Fureys for a wonderful evening of music.
