A free family event with a difference is to be held in Ballinasloe next Friday and Saturday, September 18 and 19.
Members of St Brigid’s Heritage Group are inviting everybody to join them as they are transported back in time to the Ireland of 1915. Local actors will recreate the atmosphere of the period and answer any queries about this fascinating episode in history.
The event begins with a Culture Night concert on Friday at 7.30pm featuring a host of local and national singers and musicians.
On Saturday activities will start with a 12noon camógie match between Pearses, South Roscommon, and Ballinasloe Camógie for The Ada English Cup. From 2pm to 6pm offers a children’s corner, puppet show, vintage display, WWI exhibition, a society wedding, music, dancing, and street ballads.
There will be a prize for the best period costume and a family quiz. The event wraps up with the Gullanes Session on Saturday night from 9pm. One of the highlights of the day will be the talk on Liam Mellows by Conor MacNamara.
This is a free event taking place around the Town Hall Theatre and its surroundings. Find out what else is happening by visiting the St Brigid’s Hospital Heritage Group page on Facebook.
