Thousands of people are expected to descend on Moydrum, Athlone, for the 13th Athlone Agri-Show and Food Festival on Sunday.
The event will take place at the Showgrounds, Gaffey’s Farm, Moydrum.
There will be a range of competitions with great prizes, in addition to family events, stalls, and amusements.
These include Made in the Midlands Food Village and Craft Fair and other produce offerings. There will also be trade stands and children’s amusements. There will be a bonny baby show and a super dog show, musical entertainment and a beer garden, and a best dressed lady competition.
Judging in the equine section will get underway at 10am, while the bovine section adjudication will commence at 12pm.
One of the big attractions this year is the Irish Draught Mare and Foal Championship with a prize fund of €1,500 and the winner will receive the Brendan Gaffey Perpetual Cup. There will be a prize of €1,000 for the Kepak All-Ireland Super Beef Heifer Championship, with €1,000 for the Michael Moore Car Sales All-Ireland Super Beef Bullock Championship.
The ovine section judging will start at 12pm, with cookery, poultry, and pets adjudication also starting at that time.
Admission is €10 and parking is free. The showground will open at 7am for exhibitors and 10am for the general public.
