Local Independent councillor Michael O’Brien has welcomed commencement of works on the new library and civic plaza at the old courthouse in Moate.
“It’s great to see that work is well under way on the new library and civic plaza, at the old courthouse in Moate,” he said.
“Underneath the ground floor of the courthouse, soon to be library, is a dungeon,” said Cllr O’Brien. “I welcome the news that the council are currently looking at the feasibility of putting in a glass floor over the dungeon, so people can see into it. I think this would be a unique and lovely addition to the library, as it would highlight the historical aspect of the building, adding to its appeal.”
