A new exhibition entitled Project Iris, Volunteering Through My Eyes will be launched this Thursday May 7 in the atrium of the Westmeath County Buildings by Miriam Mulrennan, Westmeath arts officer.
Westmeath Volunteer Centre has provided a valuable service that has linked volunteers and organisations for more than nine years.
A volunteer centred and led project, Project Iris, Volunteering Through My Eyes is a reflection of what volunteering means to the Westmeath community. It highlights the reasons people volunteer, what motivates individuals to give their time, and how volunteers are portrayed within Westmeath. Over the past six months the Westmeath Volunteer Centre has encouraged volunteers and organisations to capture their environments with photographs that fall under the categories of arts and culture, our community, golden years, the great outdoors, and youth.
Westmeath Volunteer Centre will also be launching its new volunteer credits system whereby a volunteer will earn a credit for 10 hours voluntary work. Every business that recognises volunteers will be listed in a handbook that every volunteer has and they can ‘cash in’ their credit in these businesses.
Project Iris, Volunteering Through My Eyes and the volunteer credits system will be launched today, Thursday May 7, at 6.15pm in the atrium of the Westmeath County Buildings in Mullingar. All are welcome to attend the launch and the exhibition will be available to view up to Friday May 15.
