Join Our Boys Trust are asking you to wear orange this Friday May 1 as part of Wear Orange Day in order to raise awareness about Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD ).
The trust are now working with the national schools in counties Roscommon, Mayo, Leitrim, Sligo, Galway, Longford, and Westmeath to raise awareness of DMD. There are 749 national schools in those seven counties with almost 78,000 pupils and information packs will be provided to all the participating schools as part of the invitation to wear orange and support George, Isaac, Archie, and all the children living with DMD.
The Join Our Boys Trust was established in 2014 to provide funds for three Roscommon brothers who have DMD. Nine-year-old Archie and twins George and Isaac, who are four, are the only children of Paula and Padraic Naughton from Roscommon. Currently DMD has no treatment; DMD has no cure. The ultimate aim of the trust is to help provide funds to find a treatment, ideally a cure, for all children diagnosed with this catastrophic disease. DMD affects between one in 3,500 and one in 6,000 boys and one in 50 millon girls born each year.
On May 1 George and Isaac will celebrate their fifth birthday and orange is their favourite colour, hence the relevance of Wear Orange Day. The Join Our Boys Trust are inviting everyone to wear something orange on May 1 to show support and solidarity for children living with DMD and donate €2, or whatever you can to the trust.
