Children attending Grovelands Childcare are busy making delicious baked goodies this week as part of the national Great Irish Bake in aid of Temple Street Children’s Hospital. The baked goods will be on display this Friday April 17 at the Harvest Café in Athlone Towncentre where people can make a donation for this worthy cause.
“Temple Street’s Great Irish Bake is an opportunity for families, businesses, and schools to dust off their aprons on April 17 and bake tempting treats to raise funds for the children’s hospital,” said Deirdre Bushell of Grovelands Childcare.
“We hope that as many people as possible will support the campaign by sampling our children’s baked treats and donating to this really important cause. It’s important that our children learn about using their creativity to help and support people in their community.”
Wanda Fitzpatrick, manager of Harvest Café said: “We’re delighted to support the Great Irish Bake in conjunction with Grovelands Childcare. Our chefs are busy baking away in advance of the children of Grovelands adding their artistic flair to the buns! Temple Street is such a worthy cause and it wonderful when we can use our freshly baked treats to raise some much-needed funds.”
This year Temple Street will embark on one of their most ambitious projects yet - the construction of a new neurology and renal outpatients unit. Paediatric neurology, and renal dialysis and transplantation are two of the hospital’s major specialities; the expert care in these units is a lifeline for children all over Ireland. In 2014, over 6,000 children attended the hospital’s renal and neurology clinics and outpatient services; however these critical specialities are currently run in cramped and crowded environments.
