Honda partners with Wings for Life World Run

For the second time, Honda is set to sponsor the Wings for Life World Run in Ireland, as official vehicle partner. This year’s race takes place in Dun Laoghaire on May 3. As vehicle sponsor for the Irish race, Honda will provide the official race and support cars for the event, including the unique moving finish line, a Honda CR-V Catcher Car driven by Simon Zebo.

On May 3, runners of all abilities, fun runners and fanatics, young and old, will come together in Dun Laoghaire to run the Irish race of the Wings for Life World Run. They will join tens of thousands of other runners from six continents and 35 countries who will also start the race at the same time.

The Wings for Life World Run is a very unique race in that the finish line catches you. Thirty minutes after the athletes start, the Honda CR-V catcher car, driven by Simon Zebo will begin to follow all runners. Driving slowly first, but increasing its speed at given periods, the Zebo-driven Honda Catcher Car is the moving finish line. The winner will be deemed the last person to be caught by the car, both in Ireland and globally. There’s no static finish line, no set distance. Everyone finishes.

Registration is now open for everyone on www.wingsforlifeworldrun.com and all of the €20 entry fee will go directly to Spinal Cord Injury research. The Wings for Life World Run was introduced to support the not-for-profit Wings for Life foundation, which funds spinal cord research projects all over the world. Millions of people around the world are living with a spinal cord injury. Every year, at least 250,000 more sustain a traumatic spinal cord injury, following traffic accidents or tragic falls and slips. One hundred per cent of the entry fees from the Wings for Life World Run, as well as all sponsorship, goes straight into research.

Commenting on his involvement as ambassador and driver of the Honda CR-V Catcher Car, Simon Zebo said: “Spinal cord injury could happen to anyone. It’s heartbreaking and life-changing and I know people who have been affected by it. The Wings for Life World Run is an amazing global sports event and I am delighted to be a part of the Irish event in Dun Laoghaire. Every bit of help, every bit of encouragement, and every person I can get to sign up and get involved can only do good for raising awareness and money for spinal cord research.”

Adrian Cole, managing director of Universal Honda Ltd. commented, “It is a great pleasure for us to again be associated with the Wings for Life Foundation and the World Run. Wings for Life are funding important research projects into spinal cord injuries and we are proud to support them here in Ireland. The World Run is a great event, for a great cause and we are very pleased to have our Honda CR-V so centrally involved as the moving ‘Catcher Car’ finish line for the Irish event.”

The Wings for Life World Run takes place on May 3 at 12 noon, starting from Dun Laoghaire and heading down the coast into Wicklow. Runners of all abilities can sign up at www.wingsforlifeworldrun.com with 100 per cent of the €20 entry fee guaranteed to go to the Wings for Life Foundation to directly fund spinal cord injury research.
