Athlone Little Theatre’s next production is the fantastic comedy drama The Cemetery Club by Ivan Menchell.
This is a contemporary play set in New York and centres around the lives of three Jewish widows - Ida, Lucille, and Doris - who meet up regularly after visiting their husbands’ graves for a coffee and a chat. The dynamic changes with the introduction of a handsome widower Sam who sets his sights on Ida.
The play was turned into a movie starring Ellen Burstyn, Diane Ladd, and the incomparable Olympia Dukakis as the three widows and Danny Aiello as Sam. Athlone Little Theatre can easily boast a cast every bit as talented with Chrissie Killian in the role of Ida, Anne Hoey as Lucille, and Anne Blackie as Doris. Add to that the experience and talent of Harry Smith as Sam and the super Sally Knight in the role of Mildred and you have a line-up to rival any on Broadway!
Harry also directs the play and has a multi-talented team behind the scenes including Bronagh Connolly as stage manager, Anthony Quinn as lighting and sound director, John Allen as lighting and sound operator, and stage crew of Martina Breen, Mairead Slevin, and Caroline Coyle.
The play runs from Friday April 17 to Friday April 24 in the theatre. Curtain is up each night at 8pm. Book early to avoid disappointment.
