A full spring clean can be a daunting task, so here are some tips to help make the job easier.
Clean one room at a time: Rather than wandering around your house tackling cleaning jobs as they occur to you, take each room in turn and clean it from top to bottom. Start by clearing any cobwebs from the ceiling and sprucing up the light fittings, and work your way down to washing the skirting boards and floor.
Organise a cleaning trolley: cleaning is easier and faster if you have all the products and tools at hand when you need them. Put polishes, cloths, etc, into a trolley or basin, and carry it around with you when you clean. A properly organised trolley will have dusters, cloths for wet cleaning, rubber gloves for heavy jobs, and bin liners, and everything else you need to finish each room in your home.
Set realistic goals: You won’t clean your whole home, organise your wardrobes, and have the garden looking perfect in one day. Set tasks around your work and family schedule, and stick to them.
Tackle soft furnishings and upholstery: Wash your curtains and duvets, or have them professionally cleaned. Spring is also a good time to steam clean upholstery and turn mattresses. Have your carpets cleaned. Get into the habit of doing these jobs at the same time every year.
Declutter: Use spring cleaning to get rid of items you no longer need. The golden rule of decluttering is, if you don’t love it and you don’t use it, toss it. Clear out your wardrobe and put a bag together for your local charity shop, which will also be happy to accept old books, CDs, etc.
Get the professionals in: If your schedule does not allow for big cleaning jobs, consider hiring a professional to tackle them for you. Professional cleaning services are the perfect solution to tackling windows, carpets, upholstery, painting, and other cleaning jobs around the home.
