The Mayor’s Ball, which supports the Athlone Community Taskforce Project Opportunity in a Million, takes place in the Sheraton Athlone Hotel on Friday March 20 at 7.30pm.
Now in its second year, the Mayor’s Ball is a fundraising event to support a very successful community initiative, aimed at creating and retaining jobs in Athlone.
Entrepreneurs who secure State funding may also need matching funding and Opportunity in a Million has become an important channel of investment to help get good business ideas off the ground.
Many successful local businesses have been the driving force behind this venture, providing expert mentoring advice for start-up businesses.
Pat O’Neill of Zenith is one example. Pat is providing an emerging business with office space, electricity, and broadband along with his own experienced advice. Many other businesses have come on board since to offer similar support.
One in a Million now has 35 emerging local businesses on its books to help develop their products, expand their markets, and increase their workforce.
A major success last year, this year’s Mayor’s Ball is also receiving great support from the local community. A number of items will be up for auction at Friday’s event, including two Rugby World Cup match tickets.
