Independent Cllr Michael O’Brien has welcomed the allocation of funding for the improvement of roads and footpaths in Moate.
A list of Athlone Municipal District roads programmes was revealed on Monday and includes works in Moate.
Among those works is a funding of €5,000 for the resurfacing and car parking lining at the Gap House in Moate. “Many people use this area for parking on a daily basis. It is an important parking facility for St Oliver Plunkett Boys School, the businesses in the area, and those using the services here. It is in urgent need of resurfacing.” said Cllr O’Brien.
There has also been an allocation of €10,000 for footpath improvements in Main Street, Moate.
Along with this the council has earmarked some €30,000 for a safety improvement design at the Main Street/Station Road junction in Moate. “It is a very busy and dangerous junction that’s used on a daily basis by many locals. A new design should be completed in the next couple of months and we should see works commencing this summer,” noted Cllr O’Brien.
Finally there has been a total of €15,000 set aside for footpath improvements at Ave Maria and Lake View Drive, Moate. €7,500 will be allocated to each estate to make the necessary improvements.
