Fantastic line-up for Roscommon Drama Festival

Once again patrons can look forward to a festival programme which brings the best of amateur drama to Roscommon when Roscommon Drama Festival opens on Friday March 6.

Tomorrow night’s opening performance is Brian Friel’s play The Communication Cord, presented by Seumus O’Kelly Players from Loughrea who are making their first visit to Roscommon. On Saturday March 7 regular visitors to Roscommon, Bunclody/Kilmyshall Drama Group from Wexford, present Stolen Child by Yvonne Quinn and Bairbre Ní Chaoimh.

Dunmore Amateur Dramatic Society return on March 8 with Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me by Frank McGuinness, followed by Yellow Moon Theatre Company from Gorey on March 9. This group were last in Roscommon in 2012, and will present Dancing at Lughnasa by Brian Friel. Phoenix Players from Tubbercurry come with a hilarious comedy on March 10 - Play On by Rick Abbot.

Rasper Players, another Gorey based group, present Marina Carr’s Woman and Scarecrow on March 11. Estuary Players from Dublin, winners of the All Ireland on two previous occasions, are bringing The Drawer Boy by Michael Healy, on the circuit this year and once again include Roscommon on their schedule on March 12.

Take 5, from Cork made a memorable first appearance in Roscommon last year and return on March 13 with MoMologues by Lisa Raftery, Stephanie Cloutier. and Sheila Eppolito - a play based on the ups and downs of motherhood.

Kilmuckridge Drama Group, winners of the Confined Section in 2009 and 2010 and All Ireland Confined winners last year, bring the festival to a close on Saturday March 14 with Kings of the Kilburn High Road by Jimmy Murphy.
