Uisneach still on tentative World Heritage list

The Hill of Uisneach in Loughnavalley remains on a tentative list for World Heritage status.

Cllr Tom Farrell asked the council’s director of services Barry Kehoe for an update this week, and Mr Kehoe said it was a slow process for a site to gain recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

He said the council intended to meet with local people including the affected landowners in the near future.

Uisneach is making its bid along with five other sites across Ireland under the ‘Royal Sites’ category. The other sites are Cashel, in Co Tipperary; Dún Aillnne, Co Kildare; Rathcroghan Complex, Co Roscommon; Tara Complex, Co Meath; and Navan Fort, Co Armagh.
