Rampant Villa see off lacklustre Coolraine

CCFL Division 1

Coolraine     0

Temple Villa  5

Villa travelled to Tullamore on Sunday last and despite very inclement weather conditions produced their best display of the season so far with a very comprehensive victory over Coolraine.

Villa started much the stronger with strikers Tomas Browne and Andrew Killane causing problems for the home defence and both went close to scoring in the opening 15 minutes. With 25 minutes gone the visitors took a deserved lead with the very impressive Fergal Murray heading home Noel Galvin's corner. For the remainder of the first period Villa continued to dominate through the driving play of John Gaffey in midfield while Anthony Allen and Gavin Byrne went close to extending the lead before the interval.

The home team enjoyed their best period of the game just after half-time but their best efforts were easily thwarted by Villa's impressive back four of Michael Donohoe, Brian Mularney, Fergal Murray, and Sean Kenny while Gary Flanagan looked very comfortable in goal. Villa grabbed their second on 20 minutes when Tomas Browne did great on the left wing to produce the perfect cross for Andrew Killane who headed home from six yards.

Five minutes later the result was put beyond doubt when Noel Galvin was fouled on the edge of the penalty area and the same player found the top corner of the net with the perfect free-kick. Villa were now rampant and the fourth goal came soon afterwards when an unlucky Coolraine defender saw his attempted clearance loop over his own keeper and John Gaffey rounded off the victory when he volleyed home a great cross from Andrew Killane.

Villa are enjoying a great run at present which has seen them concede only two goals in their last five outings and are in a strong position to challenge for league honours again this season.
