Three Westmeath athletes have been selected to compete for Team Ireland at this year’s Special Olympics World Summer Games.
Shauna Stewart (20 ), a gymnastics athlete from Athlone; Peter Malynn (57 ), a bocce athlete from Mullingar; and Ruth Geerah (35 ), a bowling athlete from Mullingar, are among 88 Team Ireland athletes who will travel to Los Angeles to compete at the World Games from July 25-August 2.
Athlone native Shauna, who trains at St Hilda’s School, is very pleased to be selected, and can’t wait to get started on her fitness schedule. She says: “I was very happy when I heard the news. I am also looking forward to the upcoming training.”
