Luan Gallery calls for 1916-themed art proposals

To accompany the national 1916 Rising centenary celebration, Athlone Arts and Tourism are inviting unique exhibition ideas and art project proposals from individual or group, amateur, or professional artists.

Ideas from artists working in all media are welcomed. Visual arts projects may include painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, mixed media, installation, sound art, performance, or video.

Luan Gallery consists of three separate gallery spaces: the New Gallery, suitable for wall-hung works, installation, or film works; the River Gallery, ideal for large scale wall-hung works that are not sensitive to daylight; and the Library Gallery, housed in the former Fr Mathew Hall, best suited to a combination of wall-hung and floor-based works.

Artists may propose projects to suit one or all three gallery spaces.

Speaking about the call-out, assistant manager Aedín McGinn said: “This is an opportunity for those who would like to show in Luan Gallery to let us know who you are and what you do. It is a wonderful opportunity for us as an organisation to be introduced to new names and projects. The opportunity to show in 2016 is very limited but by answering the open call, you are introducing your practice to the gallery and future opportunities may arise.”

Interested individuals and parties should submit a concise outline of the proposed project including project title, format, summary of concept, its suitability to the venue, and how it relates to the 1916 centenary, with support materials as appropriate, and a list of possible collaborators or associates to Luan Gallery by 12 noon on Friday March 27.
