Buoyed up by spirited displays in the Bord Na Mona Walsh Cup, Westmeath hurlers will be hoping to make a positive start to their Allianz Hurling League Division 2A campaign when hosting London at Cusack Park on Sunday (throw-in, 1pm ).
A year ago London and Westmeath divided the spoils when the teams clashed at Ruislip so Michael Ryan’s team will know that the visitors have the potential to cause them problems. London, now under the stewardship of Fergus McMahon, who captained them to Nicky Rackard Cup success in 2005, will be without several key players as Kilburn Gaels are in action at Croke Park against O’Donovan Rossa in the All Ireland Intermediate Club Final.
Westmeath produced battling displays when losing to Offaly and Galway in the Walsh Cup so new boss Ryan will be anxious that his panel can be similarly industrious when London visit the Midlands this weekend.
