Gibbons’ Pillar House is again treating its Folk Club followers to two of Ireland’s best singer / songwriters who will be coming to Ballinasloe in the opening months of the year - Declan O’Rourke on Friday January 23 and Brian Kennedy on Friday February 13.
At the end of the month Dublin singer/songwriter Declan O’Rourke plays Pillar House. A latecomer to the Dublin singer/songwriter scene, Declan has become a household name since the release of his debut album, Since Kyabram, in 2004. The debut single from that album ‘Galileo (Someone Like You ),’ has been covered by numerous artists including Josh Groban, Eddi Reader, Brian Kennedy, The Celtic Tenors, and Paul Byrom, and has also been performed by Chris Rea and Paul Weller who said of Galileo: “Possibly the greatest song written in the last 30 years”.
February’s Folk Club presents Brian Kennedy who survived a childhood on the infamous Falls Road, West Belfast at the height of its hellish history against all the odds to carve an extraordinary career in music. In his own words he says, “I shouldn’t have become a singer really, given where and how my life started, but my voice had other plans and saved me in the end.” That voice changed the course of his whole life forever.
Established in June 2014, The Pillar House Folk Club has had great success to date with monthly concerts featuring the finest of Ireland’s folk artists performing in what has become Ballinasloe’s premier live venue. The Folk Club is an intimate venue, seating a maximum of 80 patrons ensuring an up-close and personal evening of music and interaction with the artist.
