It’s another jam-packed programme of events as Roscommon Arts Centre unveil their programme of events with the fantastic Neil Delamere kicking off the new season with his new show The Fresh Prince of Delamere on Friday January 9. Neil is hugely popular with Roscommon audiences and is guaranteed to delight the crowd once more with his on-stage banter and quick-witted yarns!
From Thursday to Saturday January 15-17, the wonderful Roscommon Drama Group make a welcome return to the stage with their production of Brian Friel’s The Mundy Scheme directed by Deirdre Kelly. The play tells the story of Taoiseach F.X. Ryan and a handful of ministers as they try to hatch a plan to gather some much needed money as the country is in the throes of its worst financial crisis in decades! But greed throws a spanner in the works. A delicious mix of satire, laughter, and political chicanery - Irish style!
Roscommon Arts Centre is delighted to welcome legendary singers Maura O’Connell and Karan Casey on Saturday January 24. They will be joined on the night by accordionist Martin Tourish and guitarist Ed Boyd. With a Grammy nomination, TG4 Musician of the Year title, BBC Folk Award, and over one million album sales between them, this promises to be an incredible evening with some of the biggest talents in Irish music.
On Friday January 30 there is a great night of theatre as we enter the world of Counter Culture where we get an insight into the hilarious world of fashion retail... a labyrinth of sequins, hangers, sales targets, and bunions, where “the customer is always right”. Four shop employees. One day on the shop floor. A day so jam-packed it is bursting at the seams, and the workers feel as disposable as the clothes they sell. Come delve into the hidden world behind the super friendly smiles of our department stores.
The musical legend that is Johnny McEvoy returns to the arts centre on Saturday January 31 with a nostalgic evening, Song and Story, featuring all of Johnny’s most popular songs, including ‘Muirsin Durkan’, ‘Boston Burglar’, ‘Those Brown Eyes’, and ‘Long Long Before Your Time’. His songs are haunting, evocative, and beautifully presented in the folk and ballad style and his performances in Roscommon Arts Centre are always a sell-out, so early booking is advisable.
There is plenty to keep you entertained for the long month of January and with February highlights including An Evening With Michael Harding, Donal O’Kelly’s Catalpa, The Children’s Book Clinic, and music from the fantastic Lumiere, Roscommon Arts Centre’s spring programme of events is shaping up to be an exciting one.
