Westmeath artwork is a Texaco calendar choice

A drawing by 14-year-old Westmeath student Orla Kelly, from Our Lady’s Bower, Athlone has been chosen to illustrate the 2015 Texaco Children’s Art Calendar.

Set to brighten up thousands of homes across Ireland during the month of October, her detailed pencil study, entitled ‘Micky and Jim’, is one of 13 works chosen to illustrate the publication. Said by a competition adjudicator to be a work that “perfectly highlights the sheer talent and skill that many young people possess in Ireland and the essential role played by schools who encourage and inspire their students by providing high standards in art education”, it won a Special Merit in the 2014 competition and has since been on exhibition in various locations throughout the country.

Calendars are currently available through a select number of Texaco service stations countrywide and through Texoil, their home-heating division.
