Santa snacks for Christmas Eve

Santa has his work cut out for him on Christmas Eve with literally billions of presents to deliver to all the good boys and girls around the world. Most houses will leave out a snack to help Santa on his way; but what is the best snack to aid all this hard work?

Ireland may be one of the first stops on the round-the-world trip, so how about leaving out a bowl of porridge as this will keep Santa going for the first leg of the journey, and might stop the temptation to snack on junk food as he goes from house to house!

How about some dried fruit, nuts, or seeds? Although nuts and seeds can be high in fat, Santa will have lots of exercise getting in and out of chimneys, so we are sure that all this energy will be spent, and the protein content of nuts will help him feel fuller for longer.

Leaving out some milk or water will help keep Santa hydrated, which is vital to keep up his concentration levels so he won’t forget where all the good children live, and what they’ve asked for. Although pressie mix-ups can sometimes happen, these are usually because Santa knows what toys children really wanted.

It is probably best to avoid anything hot and spicy, as this may cause an upset tummy or indigestion, especially as he travels over the world. The last thing he needs is travel sickness!

Alcohol is a definite no-no, especially if you are driving - so if Santa does take a drink he should remember to take a responsible elf to drive the sleigh. Alcohol will also dehydrate and isn’t great for the old concentration levels!

Don’t forget Rudolph and the gang; why not think about some leafy green vegetables or carrots and maybe an apple or two as a sweet treat? Don’t forget the bowl of water to wash it all down - that should make Rudolph’s nose glow!
