NCBI, the national sight loss organisation, is asking for your support to help Make a Dark Day Brighter for the 4,300 people living with sight loss in Westmeath on the shortest day of the year. From its base in Athlone, NCBI provides practical and emotional support, rehabilitation services, and other training designed to help people with sight loss to live independently.
Sustained funding cuts have meant that the charity must raise €4 out of every €10 spent on vital services. On Sunday December 21 NCBI will hold a national flag day, selling gift packs of scented candles in Tesco stores throughout the country, including in Fairgreen, Mullingar and Golden Island Shopping Centre, Athlone.
Annette Dowling, regional manager for the Midlands with NCBI: “Most of the people we work with acquire sight loss at some stage in their adult lives so that presents huge challenges for people - both practically and emotionally. Suddenly it can feel like an impossible task to do something as simple as make a cup of tea or read your own post, not to mind getting back to work. At NCBI we focus on helping people come to terms with their vision impairment emotionally and on the practical solutions that will help them remain independent.”
