Athlone Town prepare for new season

New Athlone Town manager Eddie Wallace is busy preparing for the 2015 SSE Airtricity League First Division season.

Following the disappointment of relegation, Athlone hope to launch an instant promotion bid and the Midlanders are boosted by Philly Gorman’s decision to remain with the club.

Gorman, a key figure when Athlone, claimed the First Division title in 2013, has opted to stay at the Lissywollen based outfit. “I needed the break after the disappointment of last season and I went away to get refocused,” Gorman explained about his decision to continue operating at League of Ireland level.

“I was always going to sign back for the club and the few weeks away gave me time to motivate myself for the season coming and I can’t wait to help get the club back to where we belong. Thanks to the fans for the last two years and can’t wait to get going now for next season.”

Those who have committed to the Athlone cause for next year’s campaign include Paddy Dunican, Aidan Collins, Brian Shortall, Thomas Mulroney, Stephen Dunne, Marco Chindea, Derek Doyle, Sam O’Connor, and Gorman.
