A local schoolgirl represented Westmeath in the final of this year’s Easy Food Home-Cook Hero Awards at the weekend.
Thirteen-year-old Aoife Sheeran from Glasson was one of three national finalists in the ‘Take 5’ category of the Home-Cook Hero Awards 2014 last Saturday, for her salmon and potato bake dish.
The cook-off final took place on Saturday in Cooks Academy Cookery School, Dublin. Aoife and each of the 30 finalists - three in each category - battled it out in the state-of-the-art kitchens to prepare their creative and tasty dishes for the awaiting judges. Judges were celebrity chefs Catherine Fulvio and Paul Flynn and managing director of Easy Food magazine Gina Miltiadou.
The winners were announced by host Martin King at a black-tie award ceremony in The Shelbourne Hotel that evening. You can tune in to see all the fun, thrills and spills, and watch Aoife in action, when the Easy Food Home-Cook Hero TV show airs on TV3 this Saturday, November 15 at 1.40pm.
Commenting on the standard of this year’s entries, Catherine Fulvio said: “This is my fourth year to judge the Easy Food Home Cook Hero Awards and each year the standard increases substantially. I am always amazed and impressed with the confidence of the home cooks, in particular the children.”
The winner in each category becomes a Home-Cook Hero, and there is €15,000 worth of prizes up for grabs. Each category winner received €1,500 worth of prizes.
