Hot on the heels of the successes of Sean Keane, Mick Hanly, and Paddy Casey during the summer, this newly formed folk club is continuing to attract the best of Ireland’s singer/ songwriters to The Pillar House, Society Street, Ballinasloe. An intimate venue which holds just 80 patrons seated and 120 standing, this is surely the best opportunity to be had to experience this calibre of artist in an ‘up close and personal’ setting.
Declan Sinnott together with Vickie Keating will play the Ballinasloe venue on Friday November 14 at 9pm to a fully seated audience. A founder member of Horslips in the early 70s, he was a member of Moving Hearts throughout the 80s. He then devoted himself to production work with both Mary Black and her sister Frances Black. During a 13-year and six-album association, he toured all over the world with Mary Black. He has been working with Christy Moore for almost 30 years, since appearing on Christy Moore’s Ride On album in 1984.
He is still playing and touring with Christy Moore. At recent concerts Sinnott has performed ‘Corrina, Corrina’ as well as ‘St Louis Blues’ and ‘Lord Franklin’. His new album I Love the Noise it Makes is now available.
On Friday November 21, Mundy makes his debut appearance in Ballinasloe. This will be a standing room only gig and will, like all the other Pillar House Folk Club gigs, sell out in advance.
Mundy is one of a number of artists to successfully make the transition from street busking in Dublin to international stardom during the 90s, a prestigious list that includes The Frames, The Hothouse Flowers, and, more recently, Paddy Casey and Rodrigo y Gabriela. Mundy’s mainly acoustic, folk-based pop/ rock has been compared to Damien Rice and Josh Ritter; however, his style is more upbeat and celebratory than either. His massive radio hits ‘July’ and ‘Mexico’ will no doubt feature on the night.
Tickets for both gigs are €20 and early booking is recommended. They are available from The Pillar House, Society Street, Ballinasloe. Call (090 ) 9643939, see www.thepillarhouse.ie, or check out their Facebook page for news of all gigs.
