Second water charges protest planned for Athlone

A protest against water charges is to be held in Athlone on Saturday November 1, as part of a series of nationwide protests planned for that day.

The organisers are hoping that as many locals as possible from Athlone and surrounding areas will turn out to voice their opposition to water metering and water charges.

The protest march will start from St Peter’s Square, where participants are asked to gather at 2pm on November 1. A number of speakers will address the crowd during the protest.

The event follows a similar protest held on October 4, which saw hundreds of people march through Athlone in protest at the Government’s introduction of water charges.
