Up to 20 new jobs for Ballymahon

Up to 20 new jobs could be created with the expansion of a major haulage firm into Ballymahon in the coming weeks.

Transport company T & M McCormack, currently based in Brittas, Glasson, has purchased the site of the old Cemex plant on the Edgeworthstown Road as a new base for its burgeoning business.

A spokesperson for the company told the Advertiser that they are hoping to create anything from 10 to 20 jobs as the company continues to expand its operations. The bigger yard on the 4.5 acre Ballymahon site will also allow the company to create additional warehousing.

At present 26 people are employed by T & M McCormack in Glasson, and these jobs are also to relocate to the new Ballymahon location.

T & M McCormack transports national newspapers and magazines to several points around the country, and also delivers fruit for Fyffes to all of the Dunnes Stores in the Midlands and West.

Company directors Tom and Marian McCormack feel they are particularly fortunate to be able to make plans for expansion at a time when news of job losses permeates the media. They are also hoping to be able to create even more employment as the company continues to develop and diversify.

The company is presently in the process of transferring its operations to the Ballymahon site, and is due to begin to function from its new location by the middle of next week.

Cemex in Ballymahon closed down last October with the loss of 10 jobs.
