Girl gets 11-month threat about unsavoury associations

A young woman with no previous record who was arrested with heroin and a stolen prescription pad, was warned by the judge about whom she associated with, before he postponed two 11-month sentences until April to await a probation report.

Lisa Blake (19 ) of 86, Thornbury Drive, Willow Park, Athlone was stopped by Detective Garda Mark Lucas in the vicinity of Golden Island shopping centre on December 20 after reports of a female acting suspiciously in the area.

Det Garda Lucas told the court she was found to have €50 worth of dimorphine and “a prescription form which had been previously stolen”.

Her solicitor Mr Tony McLynn, told the court that she had been holding the contraband mentioned for a third party with whom she was in a relationship.

This man, who was also before the court facing 18 separate charges including snatching handbags, had his case adjourned until February 4 to see if he could be found a placement for residential treatment.

“She says she’s not on heroin and this will be able to be proved with clean urine,” said Mr McLynn.

“I’m not going to let you wander the streets when there are people in Dublin getting executed,” said Judge John Neilan. “You’ll be found in a gutter. There are predators out there who will use you and move on.”

He sentenced Blake to 11 months on each of the charges but postponed activating the sentence until April 1 in order for a probation report to be prepared on her situation.

“If you value your freedom you’ll stay away from dimorphine or you’ll find yourself in Mountjoy,” said the judge.
