There will be more than cymbals clashing on Westmeath Culture Night 2014 when an amazing variety of activities will be on offer to the public.
Friday September 19 will be a night (and day ) to tempt you with all sorts of artistic and cultural events happening around the county.
So if you’re a music fan, or a dance fan, curious about how an artist works, eager to listen to new poetry, willing to take a walk on the wild side or just want a taste of the wealth of culture in Westmeath, then Culture Night 2014 is the ideal opportunity to sample all that is on offer right on your doorstep.
Events will take place all over the Lakelands county ranging from classical performance by the Irish Midlands Youth Orchestra in the County Buildings and traditional music performances in Aras an Chontae in Mullingar; to poetry, art, and drama in Athlone; harpists in a hotel; open air performances by the Mullingar Town Band; a variety of dance exhibitions; art shows; photographic expos; walking tours of Belvedere; a ghostly walk in Fore; literary walking tour in Mullingar; traditional music in Moate and Ballymore; along with activities in Castlepollard, Delvin, and Ballyncarrigy.
“These are very much ground up events,” explains Miriam Mulrennan, Westmeath Arts Officer "organised by the arts community themselves with assistance in terms of publicity and coordination via the Arts Office and the programme of activities provides an ideal opportunity for everyone, of all ages, to come out and experience at first hand what is available locally”. You will be surprised at the amazing variety of top class artistic and cultural facilities available locally.
This year there will be almost 40 events around the county. All events are free of charge.
