Two Westmeath women, Frances McGonigle and Anne Rigney, will open their upcoming exhibition in the Dean Crowe Theatre and Arts Centre on Friday September 19 at 7.30pm. The exhibition is titled Two but not 2 and will feature a mixed media collection of paintings and prints.
The new exhibition is just one of the many events taking place as part of Culture Night. The exhibition will be followed by music and poetry in the downstairs bar of the Dean Crowe Theatre.
Frances McGonigle is from the well known Athlone family from The Strand. Frances completed her Hons degree in Fine Art - Painting at The Crawford College of Art. She also received in 2005 an Emerging Artist award from Westmeath Arts office.
Anne Rigney is a native of Mount Temple and is a graduate of Athlone Institute of Technology where she studied Art and Design. Anne and Frances have both exhibited their work extensively in Ireland and Anne has recently had an exhibition at the Stay Gallery, Downey, California.
Both artists have their work in both private and public collections.
The title of the exhibition Two but not 2 refers to the artists’ strong interest in a philosophy that looks at the concept of dependent origination. Which means that nothing exists independently and that everything and everyone is connected. This metaphysical outlook explains all of life as co-existing entity and powerfully informs their art practice.
The exhibition will begin at 7.30pm and will be officially opened by Jason Gill, playwright and presenter of For Arts Sake on Athlone Community Radio.
The event is free and will run for one month, all are welcome.
