Athlone Tidy Towns groups to receive awards

Bishop of Kerry, Athlone native Bishop Ray Browne, is to be special guest at this year’s Athlone Tidy Towns Awards on Wednesday.

Winners of the gardens and estates competition, as well as local schools and businesses, will receive their prizes at the annual awards ceremony, which will take place in the Sheraton Hotel, Athlone on Wednesday September 10 from 7pm.

A native of Athlone, Bishop Ray Browne, who was ordained Bishop of Kerry in May 2013, will be guest speaker at the event.

Athlone Tidy Towns Committee is delighted to announce that there was a noticeable increase in the number of applications received in this year’s gardens and estates competition.

This local competition is run annually by Athlone Tidy Towns Committee and is sponsored by Athlone Municipal District and local businesses.

The competition aims to encourage and promote householders and businesses to take greater pride and interest in their own business premises, gardens and estates, and surrounding areas.

The awards acknowledge the outstanding efforts put in by people and organisations within the town, which play a significant role in contributing towards the overall Tidy Towns efforts.
