Five schools in Athlone and another five schools in Mullingar are set to benefit from upgraded broadband access by the end of September.
enet, the open access network operator, has won a significant new contract from HEAnet to supply a number of secondary schools throughout Ireland with 100Mbs broadband. This new contract will bring to 10 the number of schools in County Westmeath that will benefit from superfast broadband delivered through the Metropolitan Area Networks (MANs ), operated by enet.
The latest contract is phase three of the ‘100Mbs for Schools’ project run by HEAnet on behalf of the Department of Communications and the Department of Education, to bring this level of connectivity to 750 secondary schools throughout the country.
Under the terms of the deal, the MAN fibre will transform the broadband connectivity of these schools - five each in Athlone and Mullingar - creating the capacity to significantly enrich and enhance the educational experience for thousands of students.
Completion of this project is scheduled for September 2014.
