Spectacular music line-up at The Snug Bar this bank holiday weekend

Tonight, Friday August 1,The Snug Bar is the perfect place to kick off your bank holiday weekend with Macey South. For those not already familiar with this popular Athlone band, Macey South is a young, energetic three-piece made up of brothers Keith and Liam Flynn and Conor Irwin. Their original mix of traditional Irish music and rock ‘n’ roll never fails to get an audience on their feet. The band’s energy is comparable to The Pogues and Horslips. The instruments range from accordion to electric guitar, with a rasping acoustic guitar and drums driving the melodies on.

This Saturday August 2, Buckeye provide the entertainment. Buckeye are a lively, vibrant four-piece band of Athlone-based musicians who play a variety of music including rock, blues, bluegrass, folk, reggae, traditional, funk, and pop. The signature sound comes from the banjo of John Shanagher (who also plays guitar ) with vocal harmonies from all members - the others are Daniel Dempsey (bass, guitar and vocals ), Mark Ryan (guitar, bass and vocals ) and Paul Shanagher (drums and harmonica ).

DJ Jamie will also be playing in the beer garden. Jamie is an expert in getting everyone to enjoy themselves by playing classic soul, hip hop, indie favorites, chart and club bangers all mixed to perfection.

Sunday August 3 is Super Sunday at The Snug, with live music from 7pm to close. Jig Jam (7pm ) are an exciting and energetic band based in Tullamore. With exhilarating melodies on the five-string banjo combined with the driving rhythm of guitar and double bass, they produce a fantastic blend of modern, Irish, and folk music with a bluegrass twist.

The Ramblers (9.30pm ) are an Athlone-based folk/ pop fusion with cousins Jack Byrne on guitar/accordion, Billy Henshaw on banjo/ mandolin/ guitar, and Mark Fitzgibbon on fiddle. They produce a unique blend of folk, traditional, rock, bluegrass, and pop music. The Ramblers always guarantee a great atmosphere in The Snug. DJ Jamie will be entertaining in the beer garden.

On bank holiday Monday catch Toxic Twins at 8pm. This duo on drums and guitar are a rock/ pop covers band from Dublin who will satisfy even the most demanding music enthusiasts with their wide repertoire of songs from Bruno Mars, The Police, Temper Trap, Lumineers, The Knack, Undertones, Talking Heads, U2, Bob Marley, Kings of Leon, David Bowie, Michael Jackson, The Killers, Blondie, and more.
