Lifeboat sees action again last weekend

On Saturday evening (July 12 ) a shout went out at 6.57pm for two craft aground on the east shore of Inch McDermott. The RNLI Lifeboat was launched at 7.06pm. At the scene it was found that a 30ft cruiser had had engine problems and drifted ashore. A passing 80ft barge went to give assistance and went aground herself.

The lifeboat eased the cruiser off the rocks and gave her into the care of a passing cruiser that had stopped to give assistance. The lifeboat then towed the barge back into deeper water. She had not suffered any damage and was able to tow the cruiser to Ballyleague. There were four adults on the barge and two on the cruiser.

The lifeboat was back at the station, ready for service, at 9.12pm.

At 4.42pm on Sunday afternoon (July 13 ) a shout went out for a cruiser aground in the same area as Saturday’s incident. The lifeboat was launched at 4.51pm. On scene a 33ft cruiser with four adults on board had grounded. The craft was eased back into deeper water and after checking for damage she was able to proceed on her journey.

The Lifeboat was back on station, and ready for service, at 6.32pm.
