A little over two years ago John Gavin and Giovanni Toselli decided to establish a club for the growing number of vintage and classic vehicle enthusiasts in the county.
Established in 2012 Mullingar Classic and Vintage Club has gone from strength to strength. The club has had a very eventful past year with over 50 members joining. The club has been busy with the preparation of this year’s second annual vintage show and family fun day which once again will be held in Columb Barracks grounds this Sunday July 20, with gates open at 10am. Why not come and join them for a family fun day out and a bit of craic?
All types of vehicles will be displayed on the day and other vintage clubs have been invited to join in. There are no restrictions on what can be brought on the day - cars, vans, jeeps, trucks, tractors, bikes, stationary engines, modified, rally cars, whatever you have bring it along as the club would love to see as many types of vehicles as possible, especially with an old type Westmeath registration plate (LI )!
There will also be an Irish Vintage Scene trade stand, Eddie Rockets food event stall, and many more trade and auto jumble stands. Why not have a guess at the crushed car and win €50 if you guess correctly, and there will be a children’s area with lots of fun activities.
There will also be a dog show in aid of Friends of Animals, starting at 2pm. Friends of Animals are a local registered charity and rescue center that do a lot of work rescuing and rehoming dogs. Midlands 103 will be broadcasting on the day with lots of great prizes to be won. And there will be a raffle with some fantastic prizes up for grabs with all proceeds going to St Brigid’s Special School, Mullingar.
Admission is €5 and children under 12 are free. Exhibitors will receive a meal voucher upon registration; along with free entry to the exhibitors raffle with first prize being a year’s free subscription to the Irish Vintage Scene’s Retro Classic magazine. Exhibitors will also receive a finisher’s award and there will be prizes for the different categories of vehicle judged on the day.
