Three top Irish bands make up the line up at The Stables tomorrow (Saturday ) night.
Heading up the gig is Galway band Itopia. On the go since May 2008, Itopia started out with the idea of creating music that was powerful, sharp and exciting but also to reveal it with a unique sound that is fresh, original, and inventive. In August they recorded their first EP which features the songs ‘Consumption’, ‘Fall To Pieces’, and ‘Drift Away’. Itopia are currently booking gigs all over Ireland and continuing to write music. In the near future they plan to start recording their first album, so 2009 is shaping up to be a very busy year for the band.
Support in The Stables will come from The Ambience Affair, comprised of vocalist/ guitarist Jamie Clarke and drummer Marc Gallagher. “I had been playing and writing for a while up until six months ago when I met Marc in the music shop we work in. Marc came to one of my gigs and decided there was room for some drums,” says Jamie. “I think the fact we're so similar yet so completely different as regards musicality is a good thing. It helps us forge out our sound. Trying to forge out that unique sound is something we will always strive for. I hope that our music is unique and actually means something to someone other than us.”
Irish/ Canadian outfit Angel Pier will also guest on the night. Three parts Irish to one part Canadian, Angel Pier layer looping drums and brooding bass, a confrontational guitarist with severe riff-tourettes and a melancholic vocalist with dark lyrical tendencies. The band have been kicking up a storm in North America since playing the prestigious CMJ festival and have picked up invitations to SXSW, Canadian Music Week and NXNE, picking up a North American distribution deal with Fontana Distribution as a result. Debut EP, Bullet Holes & Broken Sectors was produced by Kieran Lynch and well received, while follow up EP Sacrifice was released in September.
