€2.5k grant for Athlone Literary Festival

The Athlone Literary Festival has qualified for a €2,500 grant from the Arts Council, it was revealed this week.

“The festival has a proven track record of delivering great arts experiences and is among the recipients of the funding. This major literary festival has its origins in the John Broderick Weekend, first held in 1999. Since that time, the festival has continue to grow and develop,” said Sheila Pratschke, chair of the Arts Council, announcing the award.

The council’s Festivals and Events Scheme is aimed, in the main, at locally-based events and festivals seeking Arts Council funding. The awards offered may be used for one-off events or for a programme of festival activities.

A total of €307,500 has been awarded throughout the country from 199 applications received.

The total value of the funding sought by the 199 applicants was €1.6 million, and the average grant awarded to successful applicants in this round was €4,271.

The Arts Council announced its details of successful recipients under round two of the Festivals and Events Scheme for 2014 on Tuesday this week.
