The Snug announce Monday night house band Jim Jam

The Snug Bar, Athlone have another top weekend of live music lined up.

Tonight, Friday June 6, sees Macey South taking to the stage. Macey South is a young energetic three piece who have been wowing audiences nationwide with their original mix of traditional Irish music and rock ‘n’ roll. The band’s energy is comparable to The Pogues and Horslips whilst drawing influences from a variety of genres.

The variety of instruments stem from accordion to electric guitar, with a rasping acoustic guitar and drums driving the melodies on. Macey South are incredibly unique and always provide a brilliant night’s entertainment at The Snug Bar.

On Saturday June 7 Small Deal kick-start your night. Dermot and Nige both from Athlone are lively and very entertaining, singing all your favourites. They really get the crowd on their feet.

Sandra Hewitt and Richie Browne will be starting things off on Sunday June 8. Sandra recently sang with Mary Black (song ‘No Frontiers’ ) and she is a previous runner-up in the Stars in their Eyes talent show. Expect some soulful ballads and folk songs.

Then at 9.30pm Divil The Bit take to the stage. The band consists of Darren Connolly and Gerry Domican who play the banjo and guitar and are renowned for their exceptional vocals. Divil The Bit hail from Kildare - expect something from The Wolfe Tones and The Dubliners.

Due to popular demand The Snug Bar are delighted to announce that they will have popular band Jim Jam playing every Monday for the month of June.

Jim Jam are an exciting and energetic band that are quickly becoming the talk of the music scene in Athlone. With exhilarating melodies on the five string banjo combined with the driving rhythm of guitar and double bass, they produce a fantastic blend of modern, Irish, and folk music with a special bluegrass twist. The band are made up of Jamie McKeogh on guitar and vocals, Daithi Melia on five string banjo, and Cathal Guinan on bass and vocals.

The staff of The Snug would like to send best wishes to Roscommon in the Connacht semi-final against Mayo on Sunday. GAA coverage is shown in the bar every weekend.
