5.20pm - Athlone - Tallies have suggested Athlone town councillor Jim Henson won't get a seat. Speaking to the Advertiser Henson said that he is not optimistic about getting one of the seven seats in the Athlone Area. "The Labour vote is down across the country. On the plus this shows a very strong message to the Government, and is a positive step towards change." The former mayor of Athlone said he will still work with Labour.
5pm -Athlone - SF councillor Paul Hogan says he is delighted with his own vote for the by-election and is looking forward to potentially working with two new SF councillors on Westmeath Co Co.
4.45pm - Kenagh - FF's Aengus O'Rourke admits the by-election seat is McFadden's to lose, though he says he is delighted with his vote for his first shot at a Dail seat. "It is a fascinating contest in the Athlone Area, but I'm pleased that we managed to get so much of the Longford vote out," he said. He is predicting FF to take nine of 20 seats. Fellow Athlone candidate, Kevin 'Boxer' Moran said that if it was a four-seater election, I'd be in line for a fourth seat."
