O’Brien calls on council to clean up old Assumption Road Hill

Independent Local Election candidate for Athlone, Michael O’Brien, is calling on Westmeath County Council to clean up the site of the old Assumption Road Hill at the back of Assumption Road, which is situated between Tormey Villas, Ashdale, and Ardilaun.

“For years the area known as Assumption Road Hill was used as a green area for residents and children. For many generations children in the area have used it to play on. Currently children have nowhere to play only the road itself,” he said.

Mr O’Brien believes that in recent years the area has been turned into a dumping ground for waste building materials. “It has no recreational value for local residents any more. Essentially there is no green area for the residents of Assumption Road anymore,” he explained.

“I’m calling on the council to clean up the area and restore it to its former glory and therefore give the residents of Assumption Road back their green area, somewhere that they can walk, rest, and play.”
