By-election and Athlone area Local Election candidate Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran has said that he wants to be elected as the next TD for Longford-Westmeath “in order to represent the vast number of people whose problems and points of view are being ignored by the current Government and by the established political parties”.
Cllr Moran went on to say: “In this constituency Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael are asking voters to elect two Candidates who are running for Office only because of family commitments and connections and for no other reason.
“Cllr Gabrielle McFadden of Fine Gael has said publicly on a number of occasions that she wants to become a TD because of a promise she made to her late sister Nicky. I have the world of sympathy for her in her recent bereavement but that is not a good enough reason to expect to get the support of the people at the ballot box. A vote for Fine Gael in this election will be interpreted as support for the crippling policies of the present Government,” he said.
Cllr Moran went on to say that Cllr Aengus O’ Rourke of Fianna Fáil is the third generation of the Lenihan family seeking election to what his mother always referred to as ‘her’ seat. “It’s time to end this culture of entitlement by a select number of families seeking to create and perpetuate political dynasties in this constituency,” Cllr Moran added.
“I regard the task of representing the voters of Longford-Westmeath as an honour and not as a God-given right,” the by-election candidate explained, adding that he has worked tirelessly in this constituency for the past 15 years and promises to continue his work rate with the people if elected as a TD.
