Lenten Slimathon raises thousands for local charities

The 2014 Lenten Slimathon has raised in excess of €5,000 this year with many participants losing up to 5kg over the six-week period. The event was organised to raise much needed funds for MS Westmeath, Moate and Midlands Dog Rescue, Battery Heights Family Resource Centre, Athlone GAA Youth Development, and the South Westmeath Hospice. Fifty per cent of the proceeds go to MS Westmeath with the balance split between the other four charities and initiatives. Manager of Sheraton Fitness, who also sponsored the fundraiser, Ross O’Callaghan, commented on the great results from participants. “Some great effort was put in by the people involved in the slimathon 2014 which showed in the final weight loss results. There was good fun had too as the people involved enjoyed six weeks Sheraton Fitness membership and experienced a natural energy boost. There was also a physical change in the participants and this was great to see and to hear this feedback from the clients involved after the event. The Sheraton Fitness team need special thanks as a lot of effort was given to the participants individually to make the whole event work and to get results. Plus over €5,000 was raised for the charities, which are much-needed funds. Great stuff all around, so keep it going now as it would be a shame to waste all that effort!” The overall winner in the female category was Martina Rodden who has won the Slimathon Challenge each time. Martina began her weight loss journey when the first slimathon began in 2010 and she has achieved a wonderful transformation thanks to the ongoing support of the Sheraton Fitness team. The overall male winner was Alan Verziegi. Both won six months free membership to the Sheraton Fitness Centre. Runners-up were Faustina Monoghan, Ann O’Hanlon, and Paddy Conway.
