One of the biggest farms for sale in the Midlands in recent times was pulled from auction this week after bids dried up €700,000 short of the guide price.
The 110Ha (270ac ) property which belongs to the family of John Spollen from Glasson, consists of three parcels of land between Glasson and Tubberclair, failed to reach its €3.5m guide price at the auction held by O’Roarke Bros in Moate.
The house and yards on 190ac are in one block at Glasson, there is another 50ac parcel of tillage located less than 0.5km away, while a 30ac parcel in Tubberclair has road frontage along the N55, the main Athlone-Longford road.
The two-storey house was built less than 20 years ago, and includes a family room, sitting room, kitchen/dining room, four bedrooms, and a bathroom. The house also has a triple garage.
The farm buildings can accommodate up to 500 head of livestock and include two eight-bay sheds, one seven-bay shed, one large machinery storage shed, a dry bed shed, and a purpose built grain storage shed with the high roof built to accommodate tipper trucks.
The auction was attended by a substantial crowd and there was interest from local buyers and one Northern buyer.
The keener bidding was on the individual lots, with no real bids on the entire property.
The property was withdrawn when the cumulative offers for the lots stalled at €2.8m, well short of the €3.5m guide price.
However, a spokesperson for O’Roarke Auctioneers in Moate said there is on-going local interest in the individual lots, and that the sales of these would progress through private treaty.
