Another bank holiday is on the horizon. And much like last Sunday’s leg of lamb which took pride of place at many a table, the upcoming May bank holiday weekend plays homage to lovely lambs.
The Roscommon Lamb Festival is now in its seventh year. It aims to celebrate many of the positive aspect of life in Roscommon including farming, food, crafts, heritage, and family fun. There literally is something for everyone to enjoy during the festival which takes place from April 30-May 5.
There are heritage, culture and craft events; family and outdoor activities; plenty of entertainment: but best of all loads of yummy food events.
People attending the farmers market and craft village at the festival will be offered the chance to observe lamb-focused cookery demos - learning techniques, tools, tips, and flavours of locally produced lamb and other home-grown ingredients when restaurants from around the county showcase their signature dishes with their highly trained and award winning chefs. The marquee will be located in the town square and will be open from 10am-12.30pm and 2-4.30pm on May 2, 3, and from 12-4.30pm on May 4.
On Thursday May 1 a cookery demonstration will take place in Gleeson’s Townhouse. The demo will held by Elizabeth Durkin, BA in Culinary Arts. The event takes place in aid of Croi. A global kitchen will be open in Loughnaneane Park from 2pm on May 4 and will give visitors a chance to sample ethnic lamb dishes from all around the world.
The traditional Brazilian BBQ will take place on May 3 and there will also be a mini BBQ and disco on May 4 in aid of local charity Join Our Boys.
